Terry uses art to examine the boundary between perceived reality and what lies behind that reality. Through painting, drawing, printmaking and photography, he presents us with work that can be taken at face value - a mask, a landscape - but that also provides space for deeper dialogue, enabling the viewer to invoke past experience and emotion. His approach is informed by philosophical thinking about art and human understanding of reality.
Terry's latest work examines how such a dialogue can be invoked in work where the directly representational elements are reduced.
Having had a career in business, and always with an interest in art (painting in particular), Terry made the transition to artist through art education; firstly a diploma (Distinction) and BA (Hons) in Painting Drawing and Printmaking (First Class) at Plymouth College of Art. He is a founder member of Rhizome, an artists' collective that supports recent graduates and the wider arts community.
